Concern about decision to Close H&P; Prof. E Wilding-Martin, Champaign, IL

Re: Closure of the History and Philosophy of Education Program

Thursday, Oct 29, 2009

I would like to express my great concern about the decision to close the History and Philosophy of Education doctoral program at OISE. As a recent PhD graduate from the College of Education at the University of Illinois, I feel that theoretical research in the history and philosophy of education are critical to grounding efforts in other areas of educational research. It also appears that this decision was based on the false premise that there are not enough faculty associated with the program. The closure of the program is both inappropriate and a great loss to the University of Toronto. I hope the administration will reconsider.
